AltaSteel very pleased with the support shown from Canadian Federal Government

Today employees of AltaSteel and their families breathe a collective sigh of relief. In a strong show of support for the domestic steel industry the Canadian Government has implemented a Safeguard designed to protect Canadian steel producers and their workers from unfairly priced imported steel products. For AltaSteel the Government’s commitment to the Canadian steel industry assures a fair playing field in a market critical to AltaSteel’s success - Western Canada’s rebar market.

In July 2017 AltaSteel mobilized a fourth shift in its rolling operation and has since increased production volumes by some 20,000 tons per year. The action taken by Canadian Government today has instilled confidence in AltaSteel and its parent company Molycop that the decision to mobilize this fourth shift remains a good one.
