Plant Mechanical Engineer
AltaSteel is seeking a self-motivated and experienced Plant Mechanical Engineer to join our Maintenance team.
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing engineering support to the plant operations.
Responsibilities:
- Work safely and responsibly while demonstrating a strong commitment to AltaSteel’s safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, quality, and operational standards.
- Provide mechanical engineering support to plant and operating areas.
- Assist with troubleshooting plant equipment failures and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Identify, develop, and oversee maintenance, and reliability projects.
- Prepare engineering scopes, specifications, drawings, technical documentation, and project cost estimates.
- Provide technical support for equipment repairs, modifications, installations, and commissioning.
- Supervise and direct employees, consultants, vendors, and contractors as required.
- Ensure projects and maintenance activities meet safety, quality, schedule, and budget requirements.
- Support preventative and predictive maintenance initiatives to improve equipment reliability and plant performance.
- Review equipment performance and failure history to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Provide recommendations regarding safe work practices and engineering controls.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure identified risks are appropriately managed before work begins.
- Ensure plant modifications and engineering solutions comply with applicable legislation, codes, standards, and engineering practices.
- Communicate technical findings, lessons learned, and process or equipment changes to affected teams.
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Safety, and other departments to support plant objectives.
- Provide technical guidance and support during planned shutdowns and unplanned equipment outages.
- Maintain accurate engineering records and documentation.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an APEGA recognized institution
- Eng Designation registered with APEGA
- 5 years of Mechanical Engineering experience
- Experience working in a heavy industrial environment is preferred
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to manage a number of projects and priorities to a timeline and budget, while realizing project benefits
- Eager to learn and take on new challenges
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated responsible attitude towards safety
- Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills
Job Details:
- Monday to Friday 7:30am – 4:30pm
- Full-time, permanent opportunity
