Mechanical Planner, Bar Mill
The Mechanical Planner, Bar Mill is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating mechanical maintenance activities to support safe, efficient, and reliable Bar Mill operations. This role ensures that all planned work is properly scoped, resourced, and scheduled to minimize downtime, optimize equipment performance, and support production targets.
The Mechanical Planner works closely with maintenance, operations, and procurement to ensure timely execution of preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and cost control.
Responsibilities
- Plan, prioritize, and schedule all mechanical maintenance work for the bar mill, including preventative, predictive, and corrective tasks
- Develop detailed job plans including scope of work, required parts, materials, tools, labour, and estimated timelines
- Coordinate with operations to align maintenance schedules with production requirements and minimize disruption
- Review and backlog maintenance work orders, ensuring proper prioritization based on safety, production impact, and equipment criticality
- Ensure all required parts and materials are identified, ordered, and available prior to scheduled work execution
- Collaborate with procurement and stores to manage inventory levels and reduce downtime due to parts shortages
- Support shutdown and outage planning, including scope development, scheduling, and execution coordination
- Monitor and track work completion, providing updates on schedule adherence, delays, and resource utilization
- Analyze equipment history and maintenance data to identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for reliability improvements
- Work closely with maintenance supervisors and trades to continuously improve planning accuracy and execution efficiency
- Ensure all planned work complies with safety standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and optimizing maintenance costs
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records within the maintenance management system (e.g., CMMS)
Qualifications and Skills
- Journeyperson Millwright Certification, Mechanical Technologist Diploma or equivalent
- Supervision experience is required
- 3 + years of experience in Mechanical Planning
- 3 + years of extensive experience installing and maintaining systems
- Knowledge of and experience working with a CMMS program
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working as a maintenance planner is an asset
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Visio, and Adobe Acrobat
- Ability to prioritize jobs and tasks efficiently
- Excellent organization
- Experience with overhead cranes is an asset
- Ability to interpret and edit mechanical drawings
- Mechanical system commissioning is an asset
