Sr. Safety Advisor
AltaSteel is seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Safety Advisor to join our Risk Management team. In this role, you will provide expert health and safety guidance to operational teams while supporting the development and continuous improvement of safety programs and initiatives across the organization.
The Senior Safety Advisor works closely with plant operations and frontline leadership to promote a culture of safety, ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, and support effective risk management practices. This role is ideal for a safety professional who enjoys collaborating with operational teams, influencing positive safety behaviors, and contributing to the overall safety performance of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Provide health and safety advisory support to frontline supervisors and operational teams
- Promote and reinforce safe work practices and compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable legislation
- Mentor and support leadership and work teams in building safety awareness and leadership capability
- Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety programs and initiatives
- Conduct workplace hazard assessments and risk evaluations
- Participate in incident investigations, including identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions
- Provide guidance on the use of risk management and hazard identification tools
- Deliver safety training and awareness programs as required
- Monitor workplace practices and provide recommendations to improve safety performance
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety performance and risk management
- Maintain current knowledge of safety practices, regulatory requirements, and industry standards through professional development and participation in industry networks
Qualifications & Skills
- Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
- CRSP or working towards achieving their CRST/CRSP considered an asset
- Up to 10 years experience in a Health and Safety field related role
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are essential
- Outstanding relationship building capabilities and a collaborative working style
- A strong team player with superior organizational and project management skills
- Strong work ethic, high level of enthusiasm and ability to excel in a flexible, fast paced environment
- Taking initiative and having a passion for positive results
- Excellent knowledge base of provincial OH&S legislation
Job Details
- Monday to Friday 7:30am – 4:30pm with a one hour unpaid lunch
- Full-time, permanent opportunity
