Silvia
Senior Chem Lab Analyst
I came to Canada from Romania in 2006. After a period of time of adjustment to the new life, I decided to try and find a job suiting to my education and background. Prior to immigrating to Canada I worked for 16 years in an Iron and Steel Plant in Romania. There, I worked as a Metallurgical Engineer as I possess a Master’s Degree in Metallurgy. In 2008 I applied to the Chemistry Lab Analyst position with AltaSteel, was successful and started in July. 10 months after starting I was transferred to the Bar Mill were I worked as a Project Coordinator to be part of the team that made the Hot Commissioning of the new reheat furnace. During my time in this role, I made the heating curves for each product that is rolled in the mill. In 2010 I was transferred back to Chem. Lab and since then I have been working as a Senior Chem. Lab Analyst or Chem. Lab Supervisor.
I consider myself a very lucky person as I come to work with pleasure and I do enjoy my job. I take each new task as a challenge and I try my best each time. At AltaSteel there is a friendly atmosphere and there are opportunities to grow and learn.
